How to Prepare for Your Massage
It's finally the day for your massage! How do you prepare, and what should you avoid? It's not very complicated, but there are a few things to consider.
Obviously you will arrive at your massage time physically clean, but what you may not be aware of is the need to avoid shaving your legs on that day if you expect to have a sea salt scrub. Also check for any rashes, scrapes or small cuts on the skin. A sea salt scrub can irritate sensitive skin conditions, so if there is any problem, you may wish to postpone the sea salt scrub or massage until the condition has cleared.
Please avoid wearing perfume or cologne during your massage, both for your sake and mine. I am sensitive to chemicals, so I feel best and think more clearly without perfume, unless it's a pure essential oil. You may be more sensitive to sounds and odors during your massage. A massage will be helping your body flush out toxins, so we really don't want to be breathing in unnecessary chemicals during that time.
Avoid eating a heavy meal--greasy food, overly spicy food, a large quantity of food--anything hard to digest--right before your massage. Drink no alcohol before your massage.
You will need to choose a location in your home that is large enough for the massage table and for me to move around freely. A quiet, undisturbed location is best for your relaxation and my focus. I will need an electrical outlet for my music. Please schedule your massage at a time when pesticides have not been used for at least several days.
If this is your first massage with me, please prepare a list of medications you are on and the conditions for which they are prescribed, along with any over-the-counter medications or supplements. I will ask you to fill out paperwork giving me your health history, including surgeries, injuries, allergies, health problems, etc. Then we will have a brief consultation to assess the situation and make sure there are no contraindications to you receiving a massage. It will also help me know how I can better help you and what techniques I may need to modify. If there is a serious health condition, I may require you to get approval from your doctor prior to your massage. The paperwork and consultation require about 20 minutes. The time is not part of your massage, and there is no charge. The consultation is to provide a safer, more effective, professional massage.
That's it! Enjoy your massage!
