How to Choose a Massage Therapist
How can you choose a massage therapist? First, ask people you know who they use and what they think of the therapist. Word of mouth is much better than just picking someone out of the phone book. If you must choose someone through advertising, check him/her out thoroughly.
Ask yourself what preferences you have. What style do you like? Do you want a Swedish massage? How about deep tissue? Or maybe a little bit of everything: integrative, a mix of whatever techniques are best for you. Maybe you are engaging in a sports event or competition. Maybe you are just really stressed out and need a very soothing, relaxing massage with aromatherapy. Perhaps you are looking for someone to do chair massage for your spa party, graduation party, pool party, seminar, workshop--any event. Decide what you want, then find a therapist who is competent in that style.
Are you comfortable with only a female therapist or only a male therapist, or is either acceptable to you? You must find someone with whom you will be completely comfortable.
Make sure the therapist you choose is licensed. Many people in Arizona are posing as therapists, but are engaging in illegal work. Go to www.massageboard.az.gov. Click on "Find a Therapist," then "Massage Therapist Search Tool." There you can verify the therapist's licensure. If the person is not listed, he or she is not licensed and is practicing illegally.
That's it! Now get busy and find a therapist so your wonderful massage can begin!
